RACHEL GRANOFSKY
Born into an imaginitive family in 1980, Rachel Granofsky fell infatuated with her father's photo albums for their ability to mythologize one's personal experience. The pictures: cut, pasted and drawn on, rendered a lasting impression.
Rachel graduated with distinction from Pratt Institute in 2003 as a recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award in Photography. Currently freelancing as an editorial photographer in her hometown of Montreal ( a regular contributor to the Mirror). She has photographed for BBC News, New York Magazine, Boston Globe, McGill University ( advertising campaign ), La Presse, The Globe and Mail, Eye Weekly, Dose, and Macleans.
Her pictures have appeared in group shows curated by CBC3online magazine, Canadian Council for the Arts, Canadian Center of Architecture museum and the James Baird gallery in Newfoundland. Rachel's stop motion animation, Lifted, composed of still photographs, was presented as part of the Pop Montreal music festival.
Her current work aims to marry the art form of photography with drawing and painting, in a synthesis that calls into question the tenuous divide between composing the picture in the camera frame, and the post-production editing process.
